What is this Nonsense?

I began this blog in 2016 as a way to chronicle reading through books that meant a lot to me as a kid. I wanted to document the experience of re-reading them as an adult, and see the ways growing up has changed how I engage with these books. I did that for a few years, and I had a lot of fun with it.

As my life changed, so did my blog. I’m embarking on a few new projects with this blog, the first being to diversify my bookshelf.

After I started volunteering at my local library, I noticed there was a special display for books which featured female Black characters as the protagonists. This was the first time I heard about #1000BlackGirlBooks. I went home and studied my bookshelf, and realized just how…well, White it was. I decided I needed to change that.

This was the beginning of my blog taking new shape. After a hiatus of a little over a year, I’m back! Instead of nostalgic books, I’ll be documenting my thoughts and experiences reading books by Black authors, about Black characters.

I’m also going to review books that I didn’t pick. That is, books that I somehow received, that may not have been what I opted for, had I any say in it. Reading outside my comfort zone has been a fun and surprising experience!

With an abiding love of youth literature and half an MLIS under my belt, you can also expect to see posts on kid’s books, authors, and what happens when you binge read 30 YA books in 15 weeks.

Thanks for stopping in! Happy reading!
