Gen AI hurts human writers.

I’ve always wanted to be published by Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine. I’ve been a subscriber for years, and I love the stories they publish. Reading it has helped me become a better writer. I’ve submitted works to them in the past, but have been rejected. That’s okay. Rejections happen.

I have another story that is ready to be submitted. F&SF is my “reach,” but I wanted to send it to them, even if it got rejected.

F&SF stopped accepting submissions in 2023. On their submission website, it says that submissions are

“temporarily closed to new submissions of original science fiction, fantasy, and horror short stories and poems on July 15, 2023 to catch up on our backlog, due in part to an onslaught of AI-generated stories (works which we do not accept for publication but still require reading and administrative labor).”

So, congrats. Your AI slop has deprived writers of a well-respected and fair-paying market for three years.
